M3 - Globular Cluster
M3 (NGC 5272) is a globular cluster consisting of approximately 500,000 stars located within our galaxy at a distance of approximately 30,600 light years. This cluster is located in the constellation Canes Venatici. More information about this object and additional images can be found at the Messier Index - M3.
The above image is a composite of 29, 10-second monochrome images taken on 2 July 2000 combined with red (8x10sec), green (20x10sec), and blue (7x10sec) exposures taken on 8 July 2000. It was processed using Kunihiko Okano's Digital Development Process algorithm followed by Histogram Optimization and later merged with a high-pass filtered version of the same image. The white component from 2 July 2000 is shown below.
