IC 5067 - The Pelican Nebula
IC 5067 - The Pelican Nebula is located in the constellation Cygnus. This is an area of star formation located approximately 1800 light years away.
The above image is an 88-minute Hydrogen Alpha-filtered exposure combined with 30 minutes of red, green and blue-filtered exposures. The image was captured using a William Optics FLT110 4.3" f/7 refractor with an SXV-H9 CCD camera obtained on 11 August 2008.
Below is the 88-minute Hydrogen Alpha-filtered exposure used to create the color composite above. The primary emission from this nebula is photons from Hydrogen and so a narrowband filter, centered on the wavelength of this emission reveals significant detail.
